New confocal microscope

LSM 880 with Airyscan

The Biooptics Facility would like to introduce the newest addition to our microscope portfolio.

The LSM 880 with Airyscan (M27) is a state-of-the-art confocal microscope with all the capabilities of the previous LSM 780 series.

These include:

  • highly sensitive GaAsP detection, providing high SNR even with weak fluorescence
  • full spectral detection capacity with freely tunable bandwidths
  • a wide palette of excitation wavelengths suitable for the common blue/green/red and far-red emitting dyes as well as CFP/YFP-like dyes

In addition to this, the LSM 880 features the new Airyscan – a hexagonal GaAsP detector array. Each individual detector functions as a 0.2 AU virtual pinhole, allowing image reconstruction with an up to 1.7-fold increase in lateral and axial resolution.

The ZEN2 software allows users to design complex multidimensional image acquisition patterns including and combining z-stacks, time-lapse, multi-channels and multiple positions. Loops and pauses can be programmed as well.

On the 27th of August 2015, Zeiss will organize an Airyscan workshop. Detailed information will follow.
